Skin secretes sebum through pores to keep itself moist and flexible; sebum is produced by sebaceous glands lying just under the skin. When these glands become over-active these produce sebum in large volumes which cause oily skin. Excessive presence of oil on skin can give rise to many skin conditions which can make skin dull and look older. These can cause acne outbreaks and form marks and spots on the skin making its tone uneven.

Lemon juice is very effective and easy to use home remedies for oily skin. Squeeze a juice of lemon or you can squeeze two if you need it in larger quantity. Dab a cotton ball in it and apply over your face and neck. Let the juice stay for 10 minutes, do not go out in the Sun with lemon juice on your skin, and later wash off with plain water. Or you can add to a tablespoon of lemon juice half tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of milk. Dab a cotton ball in the mixture and apply on face and neck, let the mixture dry out and later wash off with warm water.

Alternatively you can grate a cucumber and add a teaspoon of lemon juice to it, wear this paste as a mask for 20 to 30 minutes and later scrub off with a damp cotton or cloth. Wash off with plain water after scrubbing. All of these are tremendously beneficial home remedies for oily skin.

Mix one tablespoon each of oatmeal and yoghurt. Take a teaspoon of honey and heat it a bit, add this to the mixture and mix all the ingredients well. You can also try another one of the simple home remedies for oily skin. Take two or three tomatoes and blend them in a blender, collect the content and apply over face and neck thoroughly. Mix one teaspoon each of grated apple paste without peel, lemon juice and honey, form a smooth paste, if you need mixture in higher quantity increase the quantity of ingredients in the same ratio. Apple cider vinegar works as internal as well external home remedies for oily skin. Mix a tablespoon each of apple cider vinegar and warm water. Dab a cotton ball and apply the mixture over face and neck, let the mixture dry out and wash with warm water later. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it through the day. In combination these two work as potent home remedies for oily skin.

Add few drops of lavender oil to a two tablespoon of milk. Apply on the face and gently massage the skin forming a circular motion with your fingers and let it stay overnight. In the morning wash off with warm water. This works as one of the best home remedies for oily skin.

Take a leaf of aloe vera, remove all the thorns and cut it into small pieces, boil these pieces with water and later strain and discard the water. Grind to form a paste and add a teaspoon of honey to it, apply on face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes. Later wash off with warm water. Take few kernels of almonds and grind then to form a powder, add some honey to get a smooth paste. Apply this paste over face and neck and gently massage in circular motion. Cut down oil, butter and carbohydrates from your diet, also reduce tea, coffee and beverages and wash face two-three times in a day particularly after coming from outside. Use mild soaps and gels and use light make-up and wash off before going to sleep or when it is not needed.
