Back pain is one of the most common problems that human being face. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, herniated disc, slip disc, tumors in spine, ankylosing spondylitis, obesity, pregnancy, injuries and trauma are other causes of back pain out of these most are of serious nature which need proper attention. Hot and cold compresses are effective home remedies for back pain. Make an ice pack by wrapping few cubes of ice in a plastic sheet. Put few glass of water and boil it, take off from burner and let it cool down. Soak a towel in it when water is bearably hot. Apply ice pack over the entire region which is painful. Make the area numb. Now take the towel wring the excess water out and cover the painful area with warm towel for few minutes. Repeat again few times. You can take this remedy two three times in a day till pain subsides. This is one of the effective home remedies for back pain and other type of pains.

Take a piece of ginger, about two inches long, crush it and add to a cup of water. Let the mixture boil for few minutes. Let it cool down later and when it is warm add a teaspoon of turmeric and two teaspoons of honey. Stir the mixture for couple of minutes and strain and drink. This is one of the effective home remedies for back pain; it has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and works even in case of pain due to arthritis.

Prepare a painkiller lotion at home. Take two tablespoons of cayenne pepper and add these to half cup of cocoa butter or coconut oil. Mix them well and apply over troubling area. This is one of the strongest home remedies for back pain which can even relieve pains due to arthritis and sciatica.


Massage work as tremendous home remedies for back pain and for all type of musculoskeletal pains. Take half cup of mustard oil and make it warm, add a teaspoon of powdered camphor to the oil and mix them well. Massage the affected area with this oil when it is warm and let it stay. You can massage two three times in a day to gain quicker relief. Another one of the very effective home remedies for back pain is provided by garlic oil. You can buy garlic oil or you can make it at home too. Just boil 10 crushed cloves of garlic with 50 ml of any vegetable oil. Boil till cloves turn brown in color, let oil cool down, strain, discard garlic cloves and store the oil. Use warm oil to massage the affected part; this is very effective remedy to calm down pain in joints occurring due to any reason.

Fill your bathtub with warm water and add two cups of Epsom salt to it. Stir and take a relaxing bath for 15 to 20 minutes; later take a warm water shower and go to bed. This is one of the useful home remedies for back pain.


You can grate a potato and add few drops of water to make a paste, spread this paste over painful part and let it stay till it dries out completely. You can also tie this paste with a bandage to let it stay for longer duration. Consuming potato paste is also recommended as one of the effective home remedies for back pain.

Take two cups of water and add 5 to 6 cloves, few pepper corns and about a gram of dried and powdered ginger. Boil the mixture till water gets reduced to half. Later let the mixture cool down and strain, drink this mixture when it is bearably warm. Two cups of this mixture in a day work as effective home remedies for back pain and other type of musculoskeletal pains.

Check your bed. If it is too soft then change and use a bit harder bed. Do the same for your working chair. Do not sit for long hours straight, take a break after every hour or two and walk few paces or at least stand for few minutes to keep blood flow towards pelvic region smooth. Do not keep wallets and other things in your back pocket or remove it when you sit down.
